About Nick Mears
I’m Nick Mears, a product marketing leader focused on AIOps, observability, AI, automation, DevOps, and enterprise software.
I help technical companies turn complex products into clear market stories, stronger launches, and sales teams that know how to win. My work sits at the intersection of product strategy, messaging, go-to-market planning, sales enablement, analyst engagement, and technical storytelling.
I’m based in Dublin, Ohio, in the Columbus metro area, and currently lead product marketing for BMC Software’s AIOps and observability portfolio for mission-critical enterprise operations.
What I Do
Enterprise software is powerful. It can also be hard to explain.
That’s where I come in.
I build messaging, positioning, launch plans, sales enablement, campaign content, and competitive narratives that help buyers understand what a product does, why it matters, and why it is different.
My work often focuses on technical markets where the audience includes IT operations leaders, platform teams, developers, enterprise architects, system programmers, and executive buyers. I specialize in making advanced capabilities like AI/ML, GenAI, OpenTelemetry, infrastructure monitoring, automation, anomaly detection, root cause analysis, and observability easier to understand and easier to sell.
Current Role: BMC Software
At BMC Software, I serve as a Principal Solutions Marketing Manager for BMC AMI Ops, an enterprise AIOps and observability portfolio supporting mission-critical operations, infrastructure monitoring, automation, and operational resilience.
In this role, I own messaging, positioning, launch strategy, and go-to-market execution for a $340M+ ARR portfolio. I work across product, engineering, sales, analyst relations, demand generation, digital, and enablement teams to bring technical capabilities to market and connect them to real customer pain.
My work includes messaging for AI-powered anomaly detection, probable cause analysis, GenAI-guided troubleshooting, OpenTelemetry trace control, infrastructure monitoring, automation, and modern operations workflows.
Business Impact
My product marketing work has helped drive measurable results across enterprise software markets, including:
Supporting a $340M+ ARR enterprise software portfolio
Helping drive +14% year-over-year ARR growth
Contributing to 119% pipeline expansion through GTM strategy, messaging, campaigns, and enablement
Improving NPS by 29% through clearer value messaging, customer engagement, and technical buyer education
Increasing MQLs by 31% and late-stage/gross wins by 42% through targeted GTM programs
Developing AI-based messaging that achieved 262% reach and contributed to a $1.4M+ enterprise deal
Past Experience
Before BMC, I led product marketing at Micro Focus, now part of OpenText, for AI-based, Agile, DevOps, SaaS, and software delivery solutions. My work supported enterprise development and QA teams focused on software quality, release velocity, automation, and delivery confidence.
I also held product marketing and marketing leadership roles at Exact, Cott Systems, and several agency and consulting environments. That experience gave me a broad foundation across ERP, SaaS, public-sector technology, records management, manufacturing, distribution, and B2B software.
Across these roles, the pattern has stayed the same: understand the market, clarify the message, connect product value to buyer pain, and help sales teams tell a sharper story.
Who I Work With
My work supports both technical and executive audiences, including:
IT operations leaders looking to improve reliability, reduce complexity, and modernize operations
Platform teams focused on observability, automation, and operational resilience
Developers and DevOps teams working to improve software delivery and workflow integration
Enterprise architects evaluating modernization, integration, and platform strategy
Sales teams that need clear messaging, competitive positioning, and practical enablement
Executives who need to understand business value, not just technical features
I believe strong product marketing should flex across the buying committee. The story should be simple enough for executives to understand, specific enough for technical buyers to trust, and practical enough for sales teams to use.
Recognition and Thought Leadership
My work has supported products and portfolios recognized by major analyst firms and industry publications, including Forrester, Gartner, Frost & Sullivan, DEVOPSdigest, DevOps.com, AIthority, Forbes Tech Blog, and TechChannel.
I’ve contributed to webinars, launch campaigns, thought leadership, sales plays, analyst materials, competitive content, demo scripts, and executive-ready messaging across AI, AIOps, observability, DevOps, automation, and enterprise modernization.
Certifications and Education
I hold a B.S. in Business Administration from Geneva College and a Masters-level Messaging Certification from Product Marketing Alliance.
More About Me
Outside of work, I live in Dublin, Ohio, just outside of Columbus, with my family. I spend a lot of time chasing toddler adventures, making espresso, taking photos, and trying to convince various trees and evergreens to survive Ohio clay soil.
I also maintain creative and personal projects outside of my product marketing work, including photography and personal writing.
